2003年，Katie Melua以超新星的姿態出現，首支單曲"The Closest Thing To Crazy"已一鳴驚人，處女專輯《CALL OFF THE SEARCH》更成為英國2004年最暢銷專輯，擊退了爵士天后Norah Jones；掀起Katie Melua音樂浪潮。這時的Katie Melua，只是個十九、二十歲的少女已，然而已成為新一代的流行爵士天后。

第一次在收音機聽"The Closest Thing To Crazy"已驚為天人，如此感情豐富的音樂、甜美老練的聲線，完全想不到是來自廿歲出頭的少女所唱出；音樂涵蓋Blus、folk、jazz的Katie Melua發表了05年的全新專輯《Piece By Piece》。

先來一首輕鬆的"Shy Boy"作開場；初聽新碟，最有印象是單曲"Nine Million Bicycles", "There are nine million bicycles in beijing...."悠揚舒服的音樂，帶有淡淡的中國民謠樂風，親切溫婉，旋律優美；

點題歌《Piece By Piece》樂風如上次的《Lilac Wine》，憂怨而沉鬱；抒情作《Spider’s Web》和《I Cried for You》，鋼琴主導，前者由平靜到激情再回到靜止，後者優美傷感；而翻唱The Cure的《Just Like Heaven》，是首討人歡喜的結他小品；其他如《Halfway Up the Hindu Kush》、《On the Road Again》都是KM駕輕就熟之作。

第一張大碟帶來空前成功，第二張大碟會是怎樣？！''Although people talk about the 'difficult second album', we have enjoyed the pressure and the pleasure of trying to get this album right for ourselves initially, rather than specifically worrying about what the audience will think'' Katie說。
正如Katie所說，這仍然是一張KM的唱片，沒有特別的驚喜變化；然而咖啡就是咖啡，香濃的咖啡又何需弄成有蘋果味的咖啡?或許將KM的唱片放在iPod上播放會有蘋果味。(一笑)

然而，如果您還沒聽過KM的唱片，我還是推薦她的首張專輯《Call Off The Search》，那是不二之選。
