90年代的英倫樂壇，是britpop年代的黃金時期，那時Oasis和Blur鬥得你死我活；當時，同樣有一隊經典傳奇的迷幻搖滾樂隊出現，所說的樂隊正是The Verve。傳奇在於樂隊解散、復合再解散；經典在於樂隊於97年的最後一張經典專輯[Urban Hymns]，"The Drugs Don’t Work","Bittersweet Symphony","Sonnet"多首經典名曲收錄。
在勉懷昔日的同時，也留意著解散後樂隊主音Richard Ashcroft的去向，擁有一把磁性的聲音兼才華洋溢，在2000年推出了個人首張專輯[Alone With Everybody]，那時的Richard，已是一個擁有妻兒的幸福男人，音樂風格也由昔日的迷幻沉溺脫變到積極正面。02年推出了第二張專輯[Human Conditions]，音樂取向延續了上張的感性樂曲。
然而這兩張脫變了的Solo專輯對於The verve的追隨者來說並不是所期望的。對我來說，聽Richard Ashcroft的專輯是本著對The Verve的情意結，即使現在他的音樂風格和The Verve時期是兩碼子的事。
差不多四年的時間，06年第三張專輯[Keys To The World]終於推出，誠言對上一張專輯各地樂評並不討好，但今次並沒有走回The Verve時期的迷幻路線，而是繼續心靈探索。
開首的一曲搖滾樂風"Why Not Nothing?"差點令我對這張新專輯重新評價，原因是這曲並不是我喜歡的曲調。興幸緊隨著是建基於Marvin Gaye歌曲"It’s All Over"的"Music Is Power"，忧如The Verve時期的"Bittersweet Symphony"，昂首闊步的弦樂樂章。而點題曲"Keys To The World"有前作"New York"的影子；鋼琴主導的"Break The Night With Colour"，文字表心聲的"Words Just Get In The Way"，民謠曲風的"Sweet Brother Malcolm","Cry 'Til The Morning"的慘白淡愁,"Why Do Lovers?"優美的深情樂章。憂傷動人的曲目也真不少。
最後以一曲"World Keeps Turning"作完結,彷彿點題地告訴大家，不要勉懷The verve時期的Richard，不竟世界在變，地球在轉。
